Synopsis

Makio Koudai is a 35-year-old novelist who is fiercely protective of her solitude. After her estranged sister and brother-in-law die in a car accident, she impulsively takes in her 15-year-old niece, Asa, to prevent her from being tossed around by insensitive relatives. The two are total opposites: Makio is a messy, socially anxious introvert, while Asa is a straightforward, literal-minded teenager. As they navigate their shared grief, the series focuses on the "foreign country" that is another person's heart, using Asa's journal to bridge the gap between their very different worlds.
