Synopsis

In an alternate Edo-period Japan, the world has been invaded and conquered by aliens known as "Amanto." These extraterrestrial beings have banned the carrying of swords, rendering the once-proud samurai obsolete. The story follows Gintoki Sakata, an eccentric silver-haired freelancer who runs the "Yorozuya" (Odd Jobs) shop, taking on any request for the right price, usually just to pay his rent. Joined by his apprentice Shinpachi Shimura and the super-strong alien girl Kagura, Gintoki navigates a world where traditional samurai values clash with futuristic technology. While the series is famous for its fourth-wall-breaking parody and absurd humor, it periodically shifts into some of the most intense and emotionally heavy action arcs in all of shonen anime.
